A Message from Pierre Simard, Artistic Director Vancouver Island Symphony 8 Concerts plus 1 Extra Special Show! 2010-2011 Season

Inspiration… Innovation… Imagination… These are the driving forces behind the 2010-2011 season of your Vancouver Island Symphony.
Inspiration is at the core of all great composers’ works. And inspiration comes from so many different sources, this season: memories from the past, the majesty of the sea, a simple love song, a folk melody from a foreign yet familiar country.
Discover thrilling musical innovation, sprinkled throughout the season: a Russian composer revisits Carmen, and invents new sounds from the familiar melodies; a concerto created from water percussion instruments; a joyous festival combining wine, visual arts and music drawn up from past ideas, but in new guises.
And the imagination… well! This is your own ingredient, our faithful VIS patrons transforming our musical offerings and shaping them, experiencing them with their own minds! It is also found in the artistry of our musicians, devoted to finding, molding, imagining the best possible way of conjuring up those essential melodies, harmonies, textures, colors.
We hope our music will inspire you, that you will be transported to new realms of sounds and emotions.
Welcome to our season!
Pierre Simard, Artistic Director
