What place were you born and where do you live now?
JM I was born and raised in Nanaimo. Studied and worked abroad for some time, but returned home to raise a family.
What is your favourite era/genre of music to perform?
JM I don’t have a favourite. As I mature into my music career I’ve come to appreciate and enjoy music of all styles and genres. Any music is good music!
Who are your musical influences and what do you love about their music?
JM My colleagues. They are so passionate about making music are so inspiring to work with. They always push me to be a better musician.
Your favourite food (only one!)
JM I love Greek food…have you tried Asteras?
Your most memorable performance? Where were you and who were you performing with and why was it memorable?
JM Playing at Disney Hall in Los Angeles. Incredible venue and an orchestra with over 100 musicians. It was incredible!
Something unique or unusual about you.
JM I LOVE LEGO!
How long have you been a member of the VIS?
JM I played the first 2 seasons under Maestro Wolfe as a student before going off to study formally. I returned in 2005 and rejoined the symphony for his final year.
What are you most looking forward to about performing with VIS this year?
JM I have a deep connection to the VIS. It has been one of the most important organizations in my career. I look forward to revisiting some fond memories and making new ones.
